Wanderlust Wednesday: La Conner

How do you like to travel? In big groups or solo? With family or friends? I’m generally a pretty big loner, so it’s no surprise that I rarely travel with anyone other than RF. But, we have friends who like to travel with friends, and I’m never one to turn down a trip. So, when they suggested getting a house for the weekend, I was all in.

We originally planned to go to Whidbey Island, but our rental sprung a leak! Something about water spraying with the force to wear through walls!? Um, no thanks. We opted for one of our backup houses instead. So, this weekend, six of us will be packing up and heading to the coastal town of La Conner.

The last time we all traveled together was to Ocean Shores. The “real” beach, as RF calls it. None of this Puget Sound coast, the actual ocean. We indulged in fried seafood and giant ice cream cones, rented scooters, had a casino adventure, and just hung out. It was the heat of summer, so we spent a lot of time outdoors. There is a hint of sun in this weekend’s forecast, but I suspect that we might tuck in a bit more on this trip. I know that books, puzzles, and Cards Against Humanity are already packed. Maybe the skies will stay clear enough for some time around the fire pit.

We usually share Easter dinner with this crowd, so we’ll be prepping an Easter Eve dinner together. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is also in the works. I hope that our eggs don’t get too sandy! Or eaten by seagulls… Either way, there is a giant candy-colored basket filled with goodies at stake. This could be my year!!

It’s also tulip time in the Skagit Valley. Or, at least daffodil season. I’ve got my eye on the Bloom Map to keep track. A quick tiptoe through the fields will likely be in order.

La Conner is only about 60 miles north of home, but I can’t wait for a whole world of getaway! And, some quality time with friends.
